German Bight model validation
The first image shows a validation animation of the wind fields Aktis Hydraulics uses over the German Bight. These winds are sourced from the NORA3 dataset, they span from 1979 to present day and cover the area with a resolution of 3km.
The left side of the image shows the spatial variation of the wind fields, and the red marker locates the position of the measurement data used. The right shows a comparison at the measurement locations between measuremed data (blue), NORA3 winds (red) and ERA5 winds (green). We see there that the higher resolution NORA3 can capture the peaks with a lot more accuracy than the ERA5 data.
This second image depicts the results of Aktis Hydraulics own wave spectral database covering the German Bight. This database was produced with the SWAN model run in non-stationnary mode, using varying tidal water levels and wind fields from the NORA3 dataset. This SWAN model is nested in Aktis Hydraulics regional EU-shelf model.
The left side shows the evolution of the modelled significant wave heights in the region, and the right side shows the comparison between modelled and measured data at the NSBII buoy.
